What's up tonight?

Ignorance IS Bliss (none / 0)

Ya know what,

After the past couple of days, I'm finding that I envy low-information voters, before becoming a supporter of Barack Obama, I was one of them.  I knew my politics, but I was not a political junkie.  What I mean is I paid attention to most of the issues, but I did not really pay attention to ads, speeches, etc.  Now though, like most people in the blogosphere, I've become obsessed.  It seems like I check the polls daily, I keep abreast of all political news alerts, ads, talking points, etc, I even read and post on liberal blogs.

But I tell you some days I genuinely miss my low-info days.  Luckily, I'm surrounded daily my used-to be fellow low-info peeps, so they keep me sane during "problem" times.  Ah, to go about my day not caring or knowing that Barack Obama is "down" in the polls, or that the race is dead heat.

Man, I miss those days.

Re: Ignorance IS Bliss (none / 0)

Lam this stuff (presidential politics) is so... addicting!  And with the state of the economy and domestic policy, it shouldn't be.  Obama should be walking away with this election.  But he isn't.  So that's what keeps us checking electoral-vote.com along with other poll based sites.  On another note the Wall Street NBC poll that came out today polled HRC vs. McCain.  Hillary was up by 6.  I wonder what the results would have shown if they polled Biden or Bayh vs. McCain?

The lesser the ride, the lesser the ultimate joy (none / 0)

Don't be too swayed by arguments of poll movement. There's been a little dip, but the fundamentals of the race have not changed. Be confident.

Political Cinema (none / 0)

I just finished watching Bob Roberts. That was the first time I had seen it. Great flick.

What's your favorite political movie?

I think mine is either Dave or Primary Colors.

Re: Open Thread (none / 0)

My tax guy told me that Obama's gonna be real bad for me, so I'm going to join with my fellow MyDD comrades and express my extreme disappointment at the terrible campaign he is about to run.

all the way to my bank.

Iowa Democrats released a new attack video against John McCain and his crap record on Equal Pay.

politico says: (2.00 / 3)

clinton staffers are assembling a "whip team" to mobilize in case of anti-Obama protests by Clinton supporters during the convention.  Members would stand in front of protesters and raise Obama signs.

Let's hope it doesn't come to that.  That's a very bizarre image.

"Is it typical... (none / 0)

for a losing candidate to have their own whip team?"

No. But neither is it typical for a former candidate to have supporters willing to injure her and her party in front of the entire world.

I expect the few actual McPumas who show up will be thoroughly browbeaten into silence by all, including Hillary's former supporters.

Obama should go to the LA Gulf Coast (2.00 / 3)

on McCain's birthday, the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, and for McCain's VP announcement. His campaign should release an ad with pictures of John McCain and Bush eating cake. He should loudly wish McCain a happy 72nd birthday and talk about everything Bush/McCain have not done for the people in the region.

That day should be the one where Republicans realize that we are not fucking around. It SHOULD be. I'm hoping Obama's people were speed out of the convention and run over everything in their path. It'd sure be nice, I tell ya.

Re: Open Thread (none / 0)

Obama really needs to start campaigning hard. Maybe these polls will show him he has to start hitting back, HARD. He hasn't done nearly the job he should be doing in linking McCain to Bush. Hoping he picks it up here on now

Re: Open Thread (2.00 / 1)

Obama could save a lot of money by conceding the election when he gives his speech at the old Mile High Stadium. MyDD diarists have made a compelling argument that the election is over. At first I resisted and objected, but after taking a cold hard look at the facts, it is now crystal clear to me that Obama does not have enough support within the Democratic Party to do much more than embarrass us all.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26314990/

"The Clinton factor
Yet perhaps the biggest factor keeping the presidential race close has been Obama's inability to close the deal with some of Hillary Clinton's supporters. According to the poll, 52 percent of them say they will vote for Obama, but 21 percent are backing McCain, with an additional 27 percent who are undecided or want to vote for someone else.

What's more, those who backed Clinton in the primaries -- but aren't supporting Obama right now -- tend to view McCain in a better light than Obama and have more confidence in McCain's ability to be commander-in-chief."

In this poll Obama leads McCain by 3pts, Hillary leads McCain by 6pts (outside MOE).....

Polls with Clinton as a choice are just plain silly. No one's campaigning against her right now.

Re: Open Thread (none / 0)

Oh so she is doing as good as Obama was doing 2-3 weeks ago? isn't it a democratic year and shouldn't she be ahead by 10-20 points? she isn't begin targeted and attacked at all so she should she even be doing better than 15-20 points??

something is missing there.

Re: Open Thread (none / 0)

i have a few questions about the roll call vote.

1.  when is it?  anyone know? what day and time?  this i gotta see.

2.  what's the magic delegate number?  if obama gets fewer delegates than he won/is expected then it'll be "dems divided, he's gonna lose."  what if somehow hillary gets fewer delegates then she won?  some of delegaes figure o's the nominee, so they might as well votefor him een thouh they're pledged for clinton (i don't think this hould happen, but it may). sould she recieve fewer delegates, we're not going to start hearing bs "he forced the rollcall vote to embaress her" stories are we?

an electoral landslide with everyone except the hanging on, hillary is 44, palin is 45, sweeties.

Expect the vote to be near unanimous for Obama. Hillary's own floor managers will make life hell for any who insist on embarrassing her.
