McCain Doesn't Know How Many Houses He Owns

I'm not sure what McCain's definition of rich is, but in my book you instantly qualify if you can't remember how many #&^#@%* houses you own:

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said in an interview Wednesday that he was uncertain how many houses he and his wife, Cindy, own.

"I think - I'll have my staff get to you," McCain told us in Las Cruces, N.M. "It's condominiums where - I'll have them get to you."

The correct answer is at least four, located in Arizona, California and Virginia, according to his staff. Newsweek estimated this summer that the couple owns at least seven properties.

I suppose in our "nation of whiners," it's uncouth to give an exact number.

Alternately, perhaps McCain can't remember because they're all owned by Cindy.

Great AP Article on This (none / 0)

"McCain not sure how many houses he and wife own":

The first two paragraphs pretty much say that McCain is an out-of-touch elitist:

Days after he cracked that being rich in the U.S. meant earning at least $5 million a year, Republican presidential candidate John McCain acknowledged that he wasn't sure how many houses he and his wealthy wife actually own.

Re: McCain Doesn't Know How Many Houses He Owns (2.00 / 1)

One more foolish comment that should, but won't, be made into a commercial.

BTW.  Obama is making a couple stops (including an overnight stay in Billings) in Montana, the Dakotas, and (I've heard from friends, but nothing solid) possibly Wyoming Monday/Tuesday on the way to the convention.

We also have the Montana Democratic party chair having some sort of press conference later for a "major announcement on the presidential campaign here in Montana".  Four previous stops by Obama, the man never announced a thing, much less held a press conference to announce it a week early...

Western governor as VP?  Schweitzer maybe?  Or just wishful thinking from a Montanan?  Maybe we're just the states between Illinois and Colorado.  :D

It would be odd for Obama to be in Billings on Tuesday night while Schweitzer is speaking on Tuesday night in Denver.

Interesting note in this article:  Obama has 16 offices and 40 paid staff in Montana.

Re: here's the link... (none / 0)

Pretty much every possible (ok, every likely) VP is scheduled for some time.  It's been pointed out repeatedly that the convention schedulers aren't Obama's staff, and that they don't know the VP pick.  They're doing the speaking scheduling essentially blind.  Whoever is chosen will most likely have their speaking time changed after the announcement.

But I am still struggling to own a house. Sachin

perhaps one definition of exceedingly wealthy... (none / 0)

is an inability to quantify everything that one owns.

of course, another explanation could just be senility.  do we know how old reagan was when alzheimers set in?  mccain likes to compare himself to reagan, maybe the analogy is stronger than he wants us to realize...

Re: McCain Doesn't Know How Many Houses He Owns (none / 0)

McCain continues to get a pass.  The MSM refuses to do it's job.  Yesterday McCain said when responding to a question that "it's ok with me" (regarding a possible draft).  Yet NO REPORTING ON THIS.  Other than Contdown.

This has got to be today's theme. (2.00 / 1)

This is awesome.  Encapsulates Obama's best attacks - rich, out-of-touch, senile.   Obama should talk about nothing else today - postpone the VP announcement if necessary.

$5M middle class (none / 0)

If you think about it, the $5M middle class answer is probably because that's how much the McCains make in a so-so year.  They're estimated to be worth about $100M, so a 5% return is an average year.  McCain probably made 10M/yr in the late 90s, and more like $2-3M this past year, so when he was asked, he probably estimated based on what his income looked like in an ok year.

this is an ineffective argument (none / 0)

I'm sure many rich politicians whom we do support also do not know how many homes they own.  Face it- most of 'em are muliti-millionaires.  They have money managers.  This is just the way that it is.  Is it good that you have to be a millionaire to be a politician in America?  No.  It is reality though- on both sides of the isle.
The only reason the Obama's aren't quite there yet (although they ARE rich compared to most)- are that they are new on the political scene.  Give em time- they will soon be richer than rich (just like the Clintons now are).
I think we probably won't win on this argument- just seems trite.

wrong... (2.00 / 1)

you might have a point if mccain wasn't accusing the son of a welfare mother of being elitist.  speaks to mccain's hypocrisy, and the fact that he will apparently say (or do) anything to get elected...

Re: McCain Doesn't Know How Many Houses He Owns (none / 0)

If McInsane doesn't know how many houses he owns why would or should his staff? Shouldn't he have referred the reporters to the person who wears the pants in the family, Cindy? This should be referred to as the McInsane's Housing Crisis! My lord He has so many Houses and so few fingers and toes to count them with!

This, IMHO, disqualifies a man from the presidency of a nation where the median income is $40k.

I love the ad,

But it would have been more powerful to actually HEAR him say he doesn't remember.
