Alaska governor praises Obama energy plan

Alaska governor, Sarah Palin issues a statement praising the energy plan Obama announced yesterday. I guess she should just kiss a VP post with McCain bye bye.

I saw this. It doesn't make up for her stances on other issues, but it's nice. Also, in an unrelated note, a thousand freepers' heads just exploded.

It's always nice when people ignore partisanship to embrace facts.

No way. No how. No McCain.

nothing but political (2.00 / 1)

expediency.

Moving away from Steven's with a little praise to Obama.

Palin isnt stupid, she knows the way the wind is blowing, and its away from the Alaska GOP. If she can weather Steven's with a little nudge nudge to Obama, then it just strengthens her hand in the end.

Re: Alaska governor praises (2.00 / 2)

For all the false hype about McCain's "maverick"-ness, Palin appears to be the real thing.

I don't fear Palin, but progressives should bear in mind that she may very well be the face of future of the conservative movement. Which means, they will have a viable future, no matter how awesome we expect President Obama to be.

Agreed (2.00 / 2)

The GOP will restructure, as they should.  I don't believe conservatism is evil, I think the GOP is evil and bears little or no resemblance to the core values it is supposed to represent.

There will, fortunately, be a viable GOP again someday.  Take it from someone who has lived in a country where one part can stay in power forever - it's not a good thing.

If Progressives can Progress common culture enough that it adopts Progressive values, that then becomes the New Normal.  Then it becomes Conservative to maintain that new normal.

Gotta say, if the future of the conservative movement is in Palin's direction, that's hardly a bad thing. Moves EVERYONE over to the left.

Re: Alaska governor praises (none / 0)

This, frankly, is how I feel about the choice of John McCain this year as well.  I read conservative blogs almost more than liberal blogs, and you should have seen the soul-shredding they were going through over McCain.  They view him as a complete betrayal of everything they stand for and a sign that the GOP is abandoning 'conservatism' for bipartisan, Libermanish, Gang-of-14-style moderation.

The Rove Strategy is finished.  McCain is their shot at lurching centrist to blunt the decline of the GOP brand, and I think it's the reason he's hanging around in the polls.  Can you imagine if they'd chosen Romney or Huckabee?

Re: Alaska governor praises (none / 0)

Awesome news. I was seriously worried about McCain putting Palin on the ticket. This, plus the recent kerfuffle over a politically-motivated firing closes that door of possibility.

Now I just need Mike Huckabee to take himself out of the running, and I'll be certain that McCain's VP choice will be zero threat.

Carly Fiorina is still out there.. even though she exported every job overseas that she could, and destroyed HP, the PUMAs will claim that any criticism of her record as a CEO would be "sexist".

Whew! (none / 0)

I'll echo the sentiment that a Palin Veepship had me worried.

Palin (none / 0)

This is pure speculation on my part, but she did not become governor by being an idiot (true, there are a lot of idiot governors). She could be looking at state polls showing something that we don't see in the public polls. After all, look at Gordon Smith.

She would not run (none / 0)

Palin would not run for VP for the same reason she would not run for the senate. She has a six-month old baby with Down's Syndrome and that's going to require all of her off-the-job attention.

at the very least (none / 0)

it makes her want to stay in Alaska.
